Karama’s Regional Coordinator Afaf Jabiri has more than 12 years’ experience working on women’s rights in both the non-governmental and government sectors in Jordan. A Palestinian born and based in Jordan, Ms. Jabiri is currently the regional coordinator for V-Day Karama Movement working to end violence against women in nine countries of the Middle East and North Africa. She is also a member of the Central Council of the Jordanian Women’s Union (JWU) and a number of regional networks for women. Previously, Ms. Jabiri took the lead in designing Freedom House Jordan’s program support to women’s rights groups on advocacy programs and legal research aimed at prevention of violence against women. She ran the Hotline and JWU Shelter for Battered Women for seven years and has extensive experience in both training and curriculum development on subjects such as women’s rights, leadership, conflict resolution and human rights. In addition, she managed a program for refugee women and children for Care International/UNHCR in Jordan.
