1) IT'S HARD OUT HERE FOR A GIRL BRINGS DOWN THE HOUSE AND RAISES MONEY FOR THE BROOKLYN FAMILY JUSTICE CENTEROn Sunday, June 25 at the Brooklyn Museum, Suheir Hammad, Toni Blackman, Georgia Me, Ishle Park, DJ Reborn, Maysoon Ziyad and Urban Word brought UNTIL THE VIOLENCE STOPS: NYC to the people of Brooklyn with V-Day's fourth marquee event
It's Hard Out Here for A Girl. The evening, conceived by Eve Ensler and curated by Suheir Hammad wove together spoken word, hip hop, comedy and dance for an inspiring night that raised $25,000 for the Brooklyn Family Justice Center and brought down the house.
2) OVER 2,000 PEOPLE SIGN ON TO RUN UNTIL THE VIOLENCE STOPSTuesday, as the sun set and dusk was upon us, nearly 2,000 people joined together for
Run Until The Violence Stops, a 5K run through Brooklyn's Prospect Park where women and men proudly demanded an end to violence against women. As part of New York Road Runners (NYRR) and with over 1,500 race finishers,
Run Until The Violence Stops brought together men and women of all ages for an unforgettable race that brought the New York City community together with one common goal: to end the violence that afflicts one in every three women worldwide. Attorney General Candidate Sean Patrick Maloney and gun survivor and official "Millionth Face" in
Amnesty International's Control Arms Campaign, Julius Arile Lomerinyang from Kenya, who won the race in just over 16 minutes, joined V-Day Founder/Artistic Director Eve Ensler and V-Day Executive Director (and NYRR member) Jerri Lynn Fields on a beautiful, balmy evening.
This event marked the end of V-Day's inaugural UNTIL THE VIOLENCE STOPS: NYC festival, a two week festival of theater, spoken word and community events that brought the issue of violence against women directly to the streets of New York City. The festival, designed to be replicated throughout the world, took over the five boroughs of New York City for two weeks in June, and moved thousands of people into action, lifting the veil around the issue of violence against women and giving people the tools to help end it.

Stay tuned for a full festival report in August.
