Host a 1% Town Meeting in your school, church, synagogue, or community center. You can start with a small meeting in your office or home. Discuss questions like these:
- What does "homeland security" mean to you? Do you really feel secure in your home?
- What is personal security? What makes you feel secure/insecure?
- How much of your daily life is spent thinking about your personal safety and the safety of your loved ones?
- How would you end violence against women and girls?
- What would you and your community do to prevent violence with your share of the $4 billion?
- How are girls and women's lives limited by their risk of not being safe and free from violence?
As the dialogue in your community grows, think big -- you can fill a baseball stadium or convention center with people discussing these issues! Ask local politicians who have a history of supporting anti-violence initiatives to attend. Invite local media to your event. When they see this exciting new movement in action, they will want to cover the 1% Campaign. Ask newspapers, churches, military posts, sports teams, law officials and judges to help spread the 1% Message.
