VIVA VEVOLUTION! looked back at the past year, including V-Day's
College & Community Events, V-Girls, V-Men, the 2011 Spotlight
Campaign on the Women and Girls of Haiti, and the opening of City of
Joy in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

In late March, the V-Day team traveled to Haiti to visit the V-Day safe house and legal justice centers supported by V-Day activists all over the world through the 2011 V-Day Spotlight Campaign on the Women and Girls of Haiti, and meet with V-Day activist Elvire Eugene to see first hand the work of AFASDA and other women's groups on the ground.

City of Joy celebrated its opening on February 4, 2011. The event brought thousands of Congolese women and men, grassroots activists, regional dignitaries, City of Joy residents and staff together with national and international activists, politicians, and supporters.

V-Day hosted its 4th annual pre-awards LA luncheon on Thursday, February 11, featuring readings from I Am an Emotional Creature: The Secret Life of Girls Around the World.

V-Day Board Member Rosario Dawson directed a pilot reading of Eve Ensler's new book, I Am an Emotional Creature.

Myriam Merlet, the Chief of Staff of the Ministry for women in Haiti, perished in the earthquake in Port Au Prince. Myriam was a force of nature and one of Haiti and the Caribbean's most beloved leaders of the women's movement.

Our time in Kenya revealed that our work is bearing fruit, huge delicious successful fruit. Agnes Pareyio (Founder of the V-Day Safe House) has become a major leader and we are pleased to announce that she has just been appointed V-Day's Kenya Director.

On September 19th in Bukavu, V-Day in partnership with UNICEF, organized a day-long event, "Women Breaking the Silence" as part of the joint campaign: "Stop Raping Our Greatest Resource: Power to Women and Girls in Democratic Republic of Congo."

On September 12th in Goma, V-Day in partnership with UNICEF, organized a day-long event, "Women Breaking the Silence" as part of the joint campaign: "Stop Raping Our Greatest Resource: Power to Women and Girls in Democratic Republic of Congo."

Over 30,000 people attended the events over the two days. Thousands traveled from out of state and country for the events that featured over 125 speakers, over 40 stars, a choir of 200, and over 800 volunteers.
