2001: SP({})TLIGHT: AFGHANISTAN IS EVERYWHERE

In December, V-Day and Equality Now co-sponsor the Afghan Women’s Summit for Democracy in Brussels. More than fifty Afghan women gather to define their blueprint for post-Taliban Afghanistan. Members of the group go on to collect 128,000 signatures from all 32 Afghan provinces on a petition calling for restoration of peace and disarmament. The petition is eventually delivered to UN headquarters in Afghanistan and the UN decides to disarm 900 men. V-Day commits to providing funding to the Revolutionary Association for the Women of Afghanistan.
