On June 2 and 3, V-Day Organizer Sampa Kangwa-Wilkie stages the first V-Day production in Lukasa, Zambia to sold-out crowds and raises over $4,700 for local groups. Billboards, radio stations, newspapers and television stations promote the benefit widely. Members of Parliament and other notables participate in post-show discussions.

In June, V-Day launches a city-wide, two-week long series of theater, spoken word, performance and community events in New York City to raise awareness of violence against women and girls.  The event garners strong support from the Mayor’s office and local businesses, the four marquee events sell out (4,250) and 70 community fund-raising events are held and attended by thousands more.  The City supports a public awareness campaign on public transportation that reaches millions of city residents.
