Welcome to V-Season 2021

Welcome to V-Season 2021

Join survivors, artists, activists, and youth in towns, cities, schools worldwide as together we RISE through Action, Art, Connection, Imagination, and Love.

For two decades, V-Day activists have unleashed vast grassroots, anti-violence work on college campuses and in communities – visionary work that has been survivor-led and focused, all the while revealing the power of art and activism to change culture and systems.

We have accomplished so much. Now we must do more. We are a movement that has always met the moment. The moment is NOW.

WELCOME TO V-SEASON 2021

VOICES CAMPAIGN: Voices is a new interdisciplinary performance arts project and campaign grounded in Black women’s stories by V-Day to unify the vision of ending violence against women: cis women, trans women, and non binary people across the African Continent and African Diaspora. Directed by poet/organizer Aja Monet, V-Day’s new Artistic Creative Director, Voices Campaign. Our goal is to use art to embody and inspire solidarity-making in our collective imagination.

Black Women: Do you have a story to tell? This is a call for submissions of poems, monologues and visual art made by Black Women for all women and those who love us. Voices is a poetic performance piece and artistic campaign. We are inviting all Black women around the world to join us in the creative process by calling for submissions.

We welcome all poems and artwork that speaks to our hurt, our hope, and our wisdom. Poems that cast spells and poems that animate the future we know is possible. We want paintings, portraits, collages, and illustrations that establish our visions for a world where we are heard. What are our examples of sisterhood? What is our call to action? How do we work together and expand one another? Tell us with your writing, songs, poems, drawings, paintings. This project seeks to get out of the stories that have been constructed for us. What are the stories we have inherited and carried that have been hard to give up for the sake of transformative justice? What are the stories we still lean on today as a source of strength, inspiration, and guidance? What will be our new story?

We are taking submissions until February 14, 2021.
Artists whose work we accept will receive compensation of $1000 for their participation. Submit at visforvoices.com and tag a sister you wanna see submit.

ATTENTION All Activists, Artists, Survivors, Supporters & Friends! We want to reach as many Black women artists as possible to submit their work and for non-Black artists to show their solidarity by spreading the word about VOICES to their networks online and in real life. Share this email with Black women in your life, with your friends, your networks, with everyone.

Follow the campaign on Instagram, Twitter & Facebook @visforvoices and on the web at visforvoices.com. ICYMI, watch VOICES Instagram Live series The Listening Tour on V-Day’s YouTube channel.

ONE BILLION RISING: RISING GARDENS
Rising Gardens is a defiant, creative call for revival, restoration and transformation. Rising Gardens is a compassionate call for justice – because one of the greatest injustices of our time has been the destruction of Mother Earth. As we seek to roll back this damage and end escalating gender-based violence, we will plant and nurture and grow.

RAISE THE VIBRATION
Create an artistic piece foregrounding the voices of your community and create an online or in person event. Invite local writers, activists and artists to participate.

Utilize the power of online performance and create a new space for your art and activism and support of local groups led by and for survivors. Will you drum? Will you dance? Will you make art? Will you create poetry? Create an artistic piece that is no more than 90 minutes long and without an intermission. It can consist of songs, chants, dances, drumming, monologues, and more.

CITY OF JOY: TURNING PAIN TO POWER
Screen the City of Joy documentary which tells the story of the first class of women at City of Joy, and chronicles the process by which such a transformational place came to be, from its origins with the women survivors themselves, to the opening of the center’s doors. Watch the Film, Host a House Party or Screening & Spread the Word.
