One Billion Rising Activists Set the Stage During 16 Days of Activism

(Reposted from onebillionrising.org)

One Billion Rising activists are heeding the call of the #1BillionRising 2022 Campaign – a call to RISE for the Bodies of All Women, Girls & the Earth – harnessing the global energy of 16 Days of Activism to connect both in a deeper, more purposeful, political, transformative and yet also empowering, hopeful way. And to make this coming year a truly radical, bold, fearless escalation of artistic Risings, bringing the issue of Gender Based Violence front and center in their communities.

We are experiencing the devastating consequences of the ongoing vicious systems of patriarchy, imperialism, capitalism and racism on the world today. We see this destructive battle for power fought over women’s bodies and the body of the earth. The devastation cannot be ignored. THIS IS AN ARTISTIC UPRISING: We call on the world to hold Artistic Risings for the bodies of all women and for the ‘ultimate body’ – our earth. Using the body as your call. Using the body as your resistance. We call on the world to use ART. Dance. Visual art. Physical and immersive theatre. Film. Sculpture. Painting. Sports. Performances (Live and Recorded). Photography and digital art. And more.

We call on the world:
To reclaim
To express
To defy
To disrupt
To unite
To radicalize
To awaken
To revolutionise
And to create JOY, HOPE and TRANSFORMATION

Are you Rising? Join us.

Snapshots of Risings around the world:

“We launched One Billion Rising 2022 with a candlelight march with the hope of freedom from violence for women as well as equality. We celebrated, and will continue to celebrate, womanhood through different activities. Through this international campaign we try to spread awareness that we should stop violence and discrimination against women and start giving them respect and equal opportunities in respective fields. Through this we share love, happiness, and unity. We all need this. We all deserve this.”

OBR Congo Rising – “You have seen that we launched our One Billion Rising campaign, at the same time as the start of 16 days of activism. For 9 years now, V-Day has organized this campaign to raise at least one billion men and women to fight against violence against women. This year we compared the female body to the earth. Because in the same way that we abuse women, we also abuse the land. This land that gives us food, the land that today makes us have air, we have trees, we have everything; but you understand what’s going on around the world. Multinationals, those who seek money are only destroying the earth. And it’s the same way we destroy a woman’s body; through rape, domestic violence or all forms of violence against women and young girls.”

“From 25-27 November, 200,000 bags of bread rolls with offers of help were distributed in 132 bakeries in and around Munich. We also included a flyer on which organizations and associations offer free help. WE HAVE TO TALK ABOUT IT! Together we can create change. Thank you to everyone who supports our ‘Violence does not come in a bag’ campaign again this year and to all the participating bakeries and organizations.”

“Need reasons why you shouldn’t stop Rising and fighting violence against women with One Billion Rising/V-Day Mexico? The 16 Days Of Activism Against Gender Based Violence is an annual international campaign that begins on 25 November, the International Day For The Elimination Of Violence Against Women, and continues until 10 December, Human Rights Day. Every 25th day of each month is Orange Day, a reminder of this fight.

‘We will continue to reinforce the actions,’ the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, limited herself to saying Monday when reporting the femicides that occurred in October. The Federation has justified an increase in cases on the grounds that, unlike previous governments, femicide is now properly classified.

A little mentioned crime, but one that has also increased this year, is that of intentional injuries. Between January and September, 47107 female victims were registered; while in 2020 there were 43107 in the same period. The number of victims grew 9.1 percent. Family violence has also continued to rise.”
Andrés Naime, One Billion Rising Mexico Coordinator
