Photos by Paula Allen for V-Day Twenty years ago, the V-Day Safe House for the Girls opened in the Southern Rift Valley in Narok, Kenya. Founded and led by Agnes Pareyio and the Tasaru Ntomonok Initiative, the safe house provides shelter and education for girls running away from female genital mutilation (FGM) and early childhood marriage. It is a place where young women can safely celebrate an alternative "rite of passage" so that Masai women can follow their tradition without undergoing the cut. Agnes and her team bravely confront the cultural practice of FGM in the Maasai community have won many hard-earned victories,...

Please consider giving to V-Day this season. The global pandemic has changed our world in unprecedented ways, confining us, taking loved ones away from us and forcing us to reckon with the intractable systems that keep countless people oppressed. Similarly, the US withdrawal from Afghanistan, unrelenting violence from regional conflicts in places like Congo, Venezuela, Israel/Palestine, and the impact of climate...

Dearest Activist, Friends, Supporters, Saturday was an unforgettable day. One which demonstrated the true power of our solidarity as activists across the globe held actions in every region of the planet in cities as far reaching as Kathmandu, Manila, New York, Mexico City, Dhaka, Bukavu, and Rome. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for coming out, for giving your time and your hearts. Because of you, the women living inside Afghanistan felt seen and heard and know that they are not alone in their struggle. By coming out to listen, by reading their testimonies, by holding space for them and sharing...
