The 17th Women's Leadership Training Session at the City of Joy is a very special session. It is a session in which residents have not only been transformed by the ingredients of therapy and leadership but have also gained missionary knowledge. For six months, 89 residents of the City of Joy received training in psycho-therapeutic care that helped them heal their trauma caused by the atrocities they had survived. Some arrived desperate, others angry. But from the beginning of their stay, they began to heal and cultivate a new life. By giving up everything that contributed to their imbalance, they were...

"We are a society that has been structured from top to bottom by race. You don’t get beyond that by deciding not to talk about it anymore. It will always come back; it will always reassert itself over and over again." – Kimberlé Williams Crenshaw I was released from prison in October of 2018 and have been home now for a year and eight months. I remember counting the years and days of my confinement with a heavy heart, now I count my days of freedom with pleasure and gratitude. We measure time in many different ways but for me these...

While thousands across the world condemn racism and demand justice at global Black Lives Matter protests, City of Joy is mourning and rising against racism. The City of Joy community is revolted over the police killing of George Floyd and others and condemns both racism and police brutality. We demand justice for those whose lives have been sabotaged after Floyd was laid on the ground and handcuffed with his neck pinned under the knee of a white Minneapolis police officer. This is pure racism! This is injustice! City of Joy is kneeling in solidarity with all protesters across the planet...

We stand with all those in the streets across this country who do not and will never accept the murder of black people without justice. All police officers involved must be arrested and charged with murder. We Rise for George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery,  Breonna Taylor, Tony McDade and every single person killed unjustly by the police. We know that unless we confront and eradicate racism, sexism, neo-fascism and morbid capitalism, we will never end violence because these systems are predicated on violence.#BlackLivesMatter#JusticeForGeorgeFloyd#JusticeForBreonnaTaylor#JusticeForAhmaudArbery#JusticeForTonyMcDade#RiseInSolidarity ...

The rapid spread of coronavirus across the globe has revealed what has always been a glaring truth for so many...

The Covid-19 virus has in a short time blown open and revealed the destructive veins of neo-liberal capitalist racist patriarchy. With each day, we see that the majority of people who are dying are those who have been historically exploited, oppressed and marginalized by poverty, racism, xenophobia. The virus is revealing the violent, broken, greed and growth systems that we have been both tolerating and forced to live with for far too long. As we rise in global solidarity to meet this moment, we now MUST ASK ourselves; "what is essential", "who is essential", "what would it mean to live with just...

As we reflect upon and honor the women who have given us life – whether that is through birth, chosen family, or adoption – we express our deepest gratitude and celebrate these mothers today and every day. We give thanks for our most essential mother – Mother Earth – and we honor essential mothers everywhere. We honor caretakers on the front lines of the Covid-19 pandemic who are risking their lives as essential workers while still mothering, helping, holding, healing, caring, and loving. WomenWorkersRising.org/TownHall The rapid spread of Coronavirus across the globe has revealed what has always been a glaring truth for so many of the essential workers who are the backbone of our society: the most essential are least valued, are treated as most expendable. It is the working class and poor who are most vulnerable to the virus and the economic disaster that Covid-19 has laid bare. And often it is women who are holding the frontline. Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal and playwright, V-Day and One Billion Rising founder V (formerly Eve Ensler) bring you their second WOMEN WORKERS RISING Town Hall on Tuesday, 12 May featuring: Saru...

To celebrate International Women's Day, we are thrilled to announce the release of our latest short film – "Raise the Vibration" featuring voiceover by actor/activist/V-Day Board member Thandie Newton and words by Tony award winning playwright / One Billion Rising and V-Day founder Eve Ensler. Directed by filmmaker Deborah Anderson ("My Revolution Lives In This Body") and produced by One Billion Rising's Ensler, Monique Wilson and Susan Celia Swan. The short reflects and celebrates the One Billion Rising campaign's 2020 theme of "Raise The Vibration." It honors all women (cisgender, transgender, and those who hold fluid identities that are subject to gender-based violence). It...
